Over the next few months, I will be introducing a new collection of images called Sportraits. This collection will feature athletes and teams from a variety of sports. Sportraits aren’t your typical team and player photo that you have taken at the beginning of the season. Sportraits are a photo journalistic representation of you and/or your team capturing the passion, guts, strength, and commitment that athletes go through. Each session is shot in the setting of the sport and/or in a studio to capture the mixture of emotions athletes endure during competition. Below is a sampling of the first entry in the Sportrait series and it just happens to be my personal favorite sport, baseball taken in late July.

Individual and/or team sessions are available throughout all sport seasons. If you are interested more information or would like to set up a session drop me an email or call 603-496-8330.

People have asked me, “Do you only shoot sports?” The answer is NO. In fact I enjoy doing portrait work as well and will start to showcase more of it on my site, like starting now.

Recently I shot a Senior portrait session with Macie. As you can see I didn’t really have to do much but click the shutter on the camera as her smile lit up the session.

Below are some shots from the session.

Since it has been a while since my last entry I wanted mix it up a bit. Recently while I was at a vintage baseball game I looked around and noticed the setting that I was in. Yes there was a group of guys playing 1860′s style baseball in vintage uniforms but upon closer look I couldn’t help but notice the details around the farm.

One of the big draws to the games on the farm is the Ipswich Brewery Truck, complete with working taps.

One of my favorite shots from this set, I like the color and shape contrast between the linear lines within the barns opposite of the white puffy clouds that float above.

Tone and texture sparked my interest as one side is clapboard, another shingle and the foundation brick.

In addition to some great textures the farm has some beautiful animals

The amount of moving elements in the underneath of this tractor made for an interesting composition.

Alright, this one isn’t beautiful but he has great texture in his hair.

This is the entrance to one of the houses on the premises. I was drawn to the mismatched sizes of the door and window.

What better way to celebrate the fourth of July than with baseball. Even better when the baseball game turns into a special event that keeps you glued to your seating antsy with every hit ball. Kyle Drabek took to mound on July 4, 2010 coming off of four straight loses. He quickly made everyone forgot as he pitched a gem of a game.

Drabek prepares during the national anthem. Holding the flag are the 37 people who took the Oath of Allegiance to officially become a citizen of the United States prior to the game.

Prior to the start of the game Drabek was 7-8 and had not had a win since may 31st.

A crowd of 6,037 at were in attendence at Merchantsauto.com Stadium to watch Drabek’s masterful performance.

Drabek was in complete control retiring the first twelve batters of the game.

Midway through fans as well as Drabek new there was something special about this night

Drabek pitched the second no hitter in Fisher Cats history beating the New Britain Rock Cats 5-0, on the fourth of July no less. This was the first nine-inning no-hitter in team history. The first one in club history happened in 2004 in a seven inning game which was part of a doubleheader.

Drabek sits alone at the end of the dugout during the bottom of the eigth inning

As it looked going to the top of the ninth

He also retied the last twelve batters of the game only surrendering 2 walks while striking out three.

Drabek is a 22-year old from Victoria, TX who was part of an offseason trade that sent Roy Halladay to Philadelphia. Kyle is regarded as one of the top 50 prospects in baseball (MLB.com)

Under these rules there is no strike zone and the batter is allowed to take as many pitches as they see fit.

The left fielder awaits in “The Garden”, which was the expression when referring to the outfield. No gloves were allowed and an out was recorded if the ball is caught on the first bound or in the fly.

“Well struck sir” was the common phrase for a nice hit.

The great thing about games at the farm is that you never know who will roam the field and want to join the team.
